Room Service: W New York – The Court
filed under: Jet Sex, Room Service by Lux Nightmare
Through something along the lines of serendipity, I ended up scoring a free stay at the W last night. I love fancy hotels, and I’m rather fond of the W in particular, so even though it meant making a few sacrifices (such as giving up Internet for the evening), I accepted my gracious host’s offer and spent the night in Midtown, at The Court.
While there, I took it upon myself to do a little research in the name of sex journalism: just how tryst-worthy is the The Court?
Atmosphere: The lobby of The Court gives one the sensation of walking into a trendy nightclub: you know, the kind that tends to be filled with the very worst of the bridge and tunnel crowd. Perhaps there are some people for whom purple lights are a turn-on: I, alas, am not one of them. Thankfully, the room itself had a much nicer feel: very white, very clean, with gentle lighting (and many opportunities to adjust the lighting to suit one’s mood.
Amenities: Melissa has written about the W Hotel Intimacy Kit: but try as I might, I could not locate it. This, of course, could have been a failing of imagination on my part, rather than a lack of consideration on the part of the W; nevertheless, if you’re in the middle of some hot and heavy action, the last thing you want to do is go on a hunt for the condoms.
On the plus side, I was impressed by the bedside bottle of Voss water, accompanied by two wine glasses.
Facilities: The king size bed ended up being the best part of the room: super soft, super huge, it begged me to dive into it, to make use of it.
The shower, on the other hand, was disappointing. Looking like something out of a tiny East Village apartment, it felt cramped even when used solo (and I am not that large a person). Adding insult to injury was the fact that the closet was about three times the size of the shower: and though I appreciate a large closet, and can even imagine some ways to even take the action inside there, the shower strikes me as a greater priority.
Overall: B+. Romantic atmosphere, comfortable bed, but a bit lacking in some essentials.
