The Best of Livedating SMS: Twitter Edition

First there was the web.

Then there was text messaging.

It was only a matter of time until these two media merged, spawning a new generation of web2text applications.

Of these applications, one of the most fascinating (at least for the purposes of this feature) is Twitter, which ultimately functions as a broadcasting/archiving system for text messages (or, if you prefer, LiveJournal in 160 characters or less).

For those interested in examining a cross-section of Twitter users, the site provides a public timeline of the last 100 updates posted to Twitter. While many of these tend to be boring — mundane, even — you do occasionally get to watch something saucy unfold:

twitteruser: browses Craig’s List, just for free porn.
twitteruser (31 minutes later): Awesome! Babeland is having a mixer tomorrow.
twitteruser (2 minutes later): wonders how loosely “single” is interpreted.

Or this:

twitteruser: [name redacted], what are you doing?
twitteruser (1 minute later): where do you live you hot thing you?

And occasionally, you get a bit of dating philosophy:

twitteruser: pssssha….. guitars aren’t girls. they’re too easy to play.
