The State of Sex Ed… for Kids
filed under: State of Sex Ed by Lux Nightmare
Through a news story out of Australia, I learned about a brand new book (put out by Family Planning Queensland) that’s intended to teach young children about, well, their bodies and themselves: Everyone’s Got a Bottom.
From what I can tell (the website doesn’t have extensive information) the book is something along the lines of the Everyone Poops of sex education, which amuses me to no end. Personally, I have some very fond memories of my first sex education book (given to me at the age of five).
Did you get a book about sex (or where babies come from, rather) when you were a kid? What was it? Would you recommend it to the world at large?

My brother and I were out playing and found a box full of hardcore porn, when I was 5 or so. We brought it in and asked Mom about it. For her part, she took it in stride, and explained “the birds and the bees” to us. (She has a degree in biology, and was able to actually be rather scientific with it.) That’s about as close as I can think of for a kids-sex-ed book.
Would I recommend that as a method to teach kids about sex? Depends on whether or not the person who explains what they’re seeing knows what they’re talking about, I suppose. I’m not proposing we give out porn to 5 year olds, but… if they find such stuff, don’t freak out, just explain it to them.
