All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth

I heard this song a lot during my childhood due to an unfortunate incident I managed to knock out both my front teeth long before due. Gummy was a look I had to master, and kids can be cruel. But luckily there was no lasting damage.

The excitement that filled me each time I had a wobbly tooth would be so dramatic, I would run to the toilet in my primary school and wobble my wobbly tooth in the mirror until it came out.  That night the tooth in question was carefully placed underneath my pillow to be exchanged for a crisp £5 come morning. It was such a good deal.

All those nostalgic thoughts were brought back on Saturday night when I popped along to the Goldsmith Design Degree show, Curious, at the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane.  Among all the wonderful creations was a piece by Clair Neal. Her creation is what can only be described as the most innocently innovative creation I have seen. The Tooth Fairy Machine.

Clair has a mind that works like nobody else I know and her ability to combine science, art and design ends in such great results. Her attention to deal on this creation was second to none, everything from the cutesy Tooth Fairy calling cards beside the machine to the mini bottle of hydrochloric acid branded by the tooth fairy.

And the best thing about the machine? The outcome. Each tooth is rewarded with one of these lazer cut gold coins, branded by the tooth fairy brilliantly with the military style stripped ribbon.

You can follow the whole process from start to finish on Clair’s blog.
