Upon viewing the work of the Central Saint Martins’ first year fine arts students at their recent exhibition, I was immediately drawn to the work of one artist. His name, Adrian Kiss. The fine art student who habitually works in 2D, directed his practice in a different light, producing an experimental visual montage of found film and stills that Kiss has ‘reworked’.  Whilst his short film pays homage to an array of various visual artists, such as Maya Deren, and the content of various fashion blogs, it seems notable and un-dismissible that the sentiment of his practice clearly defines that post-modern condition, which we are all so familiar with. The precise fragmentation Kiss explores heightens the mood and suspension apparent in the film, using very sharp cuts between scenes. Fundamentally it is the atmosphere that Kiss recreates in his piece that seems of most importance to him, and the films ability to interact with the viewer, site and situation. Exhibited in a dark basement at Trinity Buoy Wharf, the juxtaposition between the site and the plasma screen that the film is played on heightens the uncomfortable feeling Kiss engages with. Enjoy, as I certainly did!
