Berlin Fashion Week kicked off today with trade show Bread & Butter starting tonight. Berlin’s Mitte District is a diverse pool of raw talent and here’s a couple German picks from global business directory Not Just A Label.
Saskia Diez’s latest collection has taken inspiration from historical motifs including Chinese knots and decorative tassels. Her jewellery is delicately intricate with her pieces ranging from tasseled earrings to long knotted silver necklaces with adjustable length. The designer originally trained as a Goldsmith where on completion she then decided to change tracks and go on to study industrial design. Coincidence led her back to jewellery design although all elements of her previous education are prevalent in all her designs. Prices go up to £300 and are available from the Not Just a Label website.
Maniko was founded in 2010 by German born designers Madlen Lecoutré and Isabelle Mbarga. Both have completed fashion design courses at the famous HTW in Berlin and also followed though to a semester abroad at UCA Rochester.
Their aesthetic focuses on a new kind of luxury with clear lines and shapes, flattering fabric and a distinctive style. Their neutral yet powerful collection includes floor-skimming dresses, tailored jackets and stone coloured skirts.
