Following the critical success of cover ‘You Got The Love’ backed up by a markedly excellent remix by the XX, fiery vocal phenomenon Florence + The Machine launch single Cosmic Love as a precursor to their fleeting second album. Filled with delicate melodies supported by a thunderous drum beat, ‘Cosmic Love’ is a song about how being in love means “You give yourself up to the dark, to being blind,” protagonist Florence Welch told The Sunday Times.

To be Frank, I find it difficult to appreciate a song that doesn’t ‘drop’ i.e. anticipation of the song suddenly breaking into a rhythm that’s never satisfied – see Kelis’ ‘Acapella’ – but the gravity of the chorus has the effect of Florence belting her voice from the top of a mountain with mighty Thor providing the instrumentals. I like it more with each listen.
