Ten years on from it’s humble beginnings as a small celebration of the extreme water-sport wakeboarding, and a party in the park for 500 people, North Wales’s annual music and wakeboarding festival Wakestock has, in the past, boasted headline acts such as NERD, Dizzee Rascall, Moby, Groove Armada and Mark Ronson. This years 11th  Relentless Wakestock had Feeder return to the main stage having last played back in 2006, and Radio 1 DJ’s Pete Tong and Zane Lowe manning the decks at the Misadventures stage.

Wakestock festival site

Set on the stunning Llyn Peninsula and against the perfect backdrop of Abersoch’s picturesque coastline, board shorts and bikinis were the statement items of choice for the sun bleached-hair and tanned guys and girls, but it’s not only Wakestock at the forefront of board-shorts fashion. Across the pond The Standard Hotel and surf wear manufacturers Quicksilver are also jumping on the surfboard with a sequel to last year’s collaboration of retro board shorts conveniently sold pool-side at The Standards New York and Los Angeles branches.

Hollywood and Miami Beach are the latest locations to have the board short vending machines installed, with four new styles introduced, each inspired by one of the four hotels. Artist Cheryl Dunn has once again created a Costa Rican-shot video to play on the luxuriously convenient machines, which are even more conveniently, credit-card friendly.

Who knows, next year might see similar machines beach-side at Wakestock, instead inspired by one of the many bands playing, or the crowd of 25, 000 fancy dress-adorned festival goers who flock to the site every year.
