Friday Whore Blogging: Elle (Butterfield11)
December 9th, 2005 by Melissa Gira
Oh, let’s do the weekend-leisure thing early and start a tradition while we’re at it. After all, no one’s so good at leisure and tradition, and so Sexerati-apropos, as whores who have the time and technology to air their public knickers. Each Friday, we’ll meet here, get into the proper mindset (respectful voyeurism) and then head off to explore the time-shifted memoirs of our own modern women of pleasure.
Beginning this week with:

“If anything, this is what the courtesan experience is all about—it is the playground and club for those who refuse, absolutely refuse, to great danger and perhaps foolishness, to be trapped by life, to retreat inside when the weather turns rough; those people who want more, more, more, and can handle anything as long as their life is filled with beauty.”
- Elle, of Butterfield11
Why we love her: Elle is, in the words of her and her clients, “a post-modern companion, the safest femme fatale you will ever meet, and what Jackie O might have been had she shed the constraints of society.“ Jet set on her own terms, she often notes her “permanent jetlag,” teasing us with details as to what recent adventures might be rendering her sleepless. Perhaps it was the time a client offered her a driving tour around a snow-covered Manhattan, toasting the blizzard (in furs) with champagne from a stretch white limo? Or, more recently, her visit to Paris to be custom-fitted for a Mr. Pearl corset, won in a bet from another lucky man. (E.: What was the bet, exactly?)
Why we love her even more: Not many people can so effortlessly shift from bemoaning shoddy wireless connections found while conducting business at finer hotels and brainstorming oh-so-Web2.0 solutions for P2P and DRM — and probably looking much prettier doing so in panties than Cory Doctorow might — to reveling in the secret pleasures of where one can dine inside a hothouse (of flowers) in Amsterdam and where to have the best cliffside sex under the stars in Big Sur.
